The Call to Wycliffe

Bible Fellowship Church

“The church where no one stands alone”

 Bridging the Gap

Our story began when God spoke to me after I finished building brick columns for an aluminum fence along with some other work at my home in 2021. His Spirit said to my spirit, you have done enough work on your house, I have some other work for you to do. What are you going to do for the rest of your life? “Serve you”, I said. He brought it to my attention the bricks that I was dusting off to build the columns symbolized members; in the same way Jesus Christ dust off members and place them with mortar is Jesus holding the members together as a church family. He said to start a Church! When God calls you to do something, He knows that you can do it at any age through Jesus Christ. I spoke to Hazel, (My wife), about what God had said to me and she said, “I am with you”. So, we stopped the project we were on to start the building of (WBFC).

When people ask me how did I come up with the name Wycliffe, I tell them God gave it to me. I proceed to explain to them that I prayed to God and asked Him to give me a name for the church. One night I was studying one of my Bible dictionaries and when I closed it, the name Wycliffe Dictionary stared me in the face, and I said, “that’s it! Wycliffe Bible Fellowship Church”. I shared it with my wife, and she liked it. Through the eyes of and encouragement of Mrs. Shirley Tucker, the story should be framed in a hardcopy to share with everyone who worships with us at Wycliffe.

Later, while working on the logo, struggling with how to put the logo together going back and forth, and with much thought, God spoke to me again to use two cliffs. Two cliffs were arranged facing each other with a cross in the center, symbolic of crossing over to God through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the way to bridge the gap. The family together on top promotes Wycliffe as a family church. The Bible underneath “Wycliffe” lets people know that we are a Bible Believing Fellowship Church.

It is God’s desire to do more through us by sharing biblical truths.  The Mission Statement is:  “To know Jesus Christ and to make Him known through preaching/teaching, winning souls, making disciples, impacting the community, and all people” who want to glorify God. This is why through God’s love, grace and mercy He has allowed us to start this Wycliffe ministry.

The next step was to write the bylaws, and get incorporated through the Secretary of State in Georgia.

A contract was made with the Richmond County School System to rent The Tubman Education Center’s Auditorium on Sundays. On July 21, 2022, Wycliffe Bible Fellowship Church initial service was held.  Rev. Kenneth Gainous and the Christian City of Praise was in charge of the Service.  My first sermon was entitled, “Delayed but not Denied”.  The text was Habakkuk 2:1-4.  The following Sunday, July 24, 2022, the first Sunday School was held at 8:30a.m. and the first weekly worship was held at 9:30 a.m.  The Sermon title was “Bridging the Gap”, coming from the text, John 1:1-14.  We hold our services early so that worshipers that may have to go to work in the afternoon will get a chance to worship before work.

The First Year of Life Celebration was held on July 16, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.  Rev. Kenneth Gainous preached, “You Hold the Keys”.  The Second Year of Life Celebration was held on July 21, 2024 at 1:30p.m.  Rev. Robert Ramsey and the Gospel Water Branch Church were in charge of the services.  His sermon was “A Church that Looks Like Jesus”.

On December 8, 2024, The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was held at 3:00p.m. featuring the musical group “Determined”.

Also, Wycliffe will be having her Third Anniversary on July 20, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.  Rev. Herman Jackson and Christian Fountain Church will be in charge of the services.

As of now, we are being prayerful that God will allow us to add a Bible Study to our church. A Building Fund has been established and our future goal is to relocate WBFC to a permanent home in the Augusta area. We are asking anyone able, to participate by donating or partnering with us to make this goal a reality as God leads us to a property.  All donations are tax deductible and contribution statements are mailed out yearly.  Donations may be mailed to Wycliffe Bible Fellowship Church; P. O. Box 3130; Augusta, GA 30914.  You may also donate through Cash App - $Wycliffebfc.   Thank you in advance!
